My name is Eyiss Major and I am an expert at Murder Mystery 2.
This post will teach you how to become an expert plus things that should never be done.
This post is also intended for casual mode. somethings may not apply to hardcore mode.
Murderer Tactics and gameplay
We will start with the most prioritized role in the game, the murderer.
Now the first priority is keeping your identity a secret, if anyone knows your the murderer, it could put a fork in everyone thing else I teach you. This is fairly easy to pull off, focus your attention on killing single individuals or small groups of people that are in non-visible locations. (vents, one way hallways, small rooms in general) Your worse enemy is someone who witnessed your killings and happened to be the sheriff. Now sound will play a role, for every death, someone can figure out the general location of were it took place. If it was close to them, they may try to spot any suspicious looking people. The opposite may occur and someone will run in the other direction if they hear a noise. Either way, it is best to leave to room and get far away. The farther away you are, the less likely anyone will think you're the murderer.
The second priority is figuring out who the sheriff is as fast as possible without interfering with priority one, the best case scenario is killing the sheriff while doing priority one, but most of the time they will be in large rooms which would be hard to kill everyone without being shot. If you do happen to find the sheriff, the best way to kill him is when he walks around a corner. Go into 3rd person to look around a corner, and when he walks around, strike before he even notices what happened. If done right, Corner Kills are practically impossible to avoid, so they are your best option. If the sheriff is staying in one place. Leave him be, he doesn't know who you are, and eliminating lone innocent and hiders would be a better use of time. If at any point the sheriff is moving, go for a Corner kill
Ensuring the win After the Sheriff has been taken out, you must focus on killing everyone else, now the less people, the better, which is why priority one is in place. In the case that someone else picks up the gun, take little risk, he might know who you are. Corner Kills are again your best bet here, but if he is stationary, and due to limited time, Throwing knifes are the way to go. If your target is killed, now would be the time to ignore everything I just said because now time is against you. X-ray is the best way to find any hiders or someone you missed, so I would recommend X-ray as your perk.
Now let's get into more specific cases
In the case that someone figures out you are the murderer, don't lose hope. You can change your appearance to make yourself look like a different person. This works best with large hats that are used to identity you or covers up your head completely. Push the "=" button on your keyboard to take off your hats (I would also recommend having a different head color if your hat covers up your head) and go ahead and switch your radio and your pet. Now you look like someone else and you can focus on killing that snitch!
If there is a glitcher outside the map, you can still get him a matter of ways. You could just tell him that he's the last one ask him to reset so you could have a fair victory. If he refuses you can try to stab him through a wall using x-ray, or use shift lock mode to throw a knife at him. But if all else fails, can use reverse psychology and tell him "You better not reset, if you reset, I will get so mad! AGH, don't you reset MR. DON'T DO IT OR ELSE, NO RESETTING!" that might do the trick.
Camping and Puppy Guarding
Now instincts may tell you to stay near the thing that can kill you, but camping almost never works. Obviously, it gives your identity away, and now winning would be like winning the lottery at the same time you get struck by lighting, or in other terms, you won't win. Any logical person would just stay away, because you would lose if you didn't kill everyone. Don't forget that throwing knifes has a recharge, and someone could grab the gun while you are reseting. Bottom line, Killing the sheriff, should be reacted to the same way as you killing an innocent.
Dueling Madness - Murderer
Try to avoid duels, they give away your identity, and there the most common source of murderer deaths. But If you get into one, you need to know how to get out. First, get cover. He has a ranged weapon, and he will have a easy time shooting you out in the open, even if your jumping. X-ray can help a lot, it will give you the exact location of the sherif, where he can't see you. Time a throwing knife so it will hit the sheriff, and so your vulnerable for the shortest amount of time. If you can, try to get closer to the sheriff while he is reloading. You only have a 2 second time frame, so don't overestimate how far you can get. If you kill the sheriff, good job! now everyone knows who you are and you will probably have another one.
Sheriff Tactics & Gameplay
While being the sheriff, you pretty much just counter-act or ignore what I just said for the murderer
The First Priority is not to be killed (obviously) but the real question is how, like I said Corner kills are impossible to avoid, so only go around them if you hear a kill that couldn't have come from around it, or by using shift lock mode to literally look around the corner without being spotted.
Finding the murderer, is your Second Priority, but that might be hard to determine, witnessing a killing is a dead giveaway, smart murderers take little risk in where they kill someone. You can't win unless the murderer is dead so your aim is very important, the element of surprise is the best way to kill the murderer. You will come face to face with the murderer at one point or another, so you want the environment advantage. let the murderer come to you, pick a spot with lots of open room, but also escape roots if things get rough. If you know the murderer, shoot him before he has a chance, but if he surprises you, stay as far away from him as you can, stabbing can be very hard to avoid.
If someone on a team is the murderer, you killing the murderer is the only hope for the innocent. Be extra cautious, and take no risk what so ever. If necessary, shoot the innocent teamer, so the next sheriff won't be the teamer. (only works if there are 2 teamers)
Another good way to figure out who the murderer is without looking at him directly is sound canceling. When the murderer kills someone, it makes a sound (unless they have ninja). From that, you can conclude that the guys standing next to you are not the murderer. After a while, you will narrow down the list of potential murderers until you have only one person. If done correctly, you can identify who the murderer is just because everyone else was in the same room as you at one point.
Dueling Madness - Sherif
If you ever get into a duel with the murderer. Keep in mind your reload, if you shot at him, could he get to you before you could shoot again? If he is jumping around alot, try to hit him at a certain stage of the jump, I aways shoot when they hit the ground. Predict where he will go and shoot there.
Innocent Tactics & Gameplay
Yes Innocent can do stuff too, it just requires the knowledge.
Your Number one priority is the same as the sheriff, stay alive. The best way to pull this off is with stealth, If the murderer never sees you, it's would be pretty darn hard to kill you. Now of course, you would have to actually know the murderer to stay hidden from him, so right as the round starts, to who you figure out who the murderer is, stay away from everyone. Don't walk down narrow hallways, or go into easy kill spots, stick to large rooms with lots of clutter. Now if you find the murderer, stay out of his sight. Shadowing is when you follow them, but to an extent were they wouldn't see you. This is the best way to stay hidden.
Time is on your side. Time is the most valuable thing you have, keep in mind that the round ends once the XP reward gets to 1810 and you get 10 XP per second. So, if you see the gun, but there's 1700 XP it wouldn't be worth the risk, since the round would end in 10 seconds.
If you caught the murderer in the act, go ahead and tell everyone who he is, you can also tell who the murderer is by looking at the corpses. If they have skull heads, it's an elite. If there doges or bright green, you can look at everyone's effects in there inventory and find out who it is.
Radio's give away your location! if you play music, you can kiss stealth goodbye because smart murderers will know you there.
Don't stand in groups! It is more time consuming if everyone is spread out. Therefore, giving you an advantage.
The Lone Innocent
If you happen to be the only innocent left, the clock is on your side. Run down the clock as much as possible.
Don't focus to much on getting the gun, it could be anywhere at this point. If you come across the murderer, RUN! go into side rooms, jump of bridges, literally anything that might slow the murderer down. If done right, the clock with run out of time before he can kill you.
The bank map
This map is special in that you can tell who the murderer is without acually seeing him. If you see someone set off a scanner (the arch that says no knifes or guns) there rather the murderer or the sheriff, can't tell which one. In that case, walk away. Even if you know they are the Sheriff, because the Murderer knows there the Sheriff too.
Dueling Madness - Innocent
When the Sheriff and the Murderer are brawling it out, get to one of the following locations: Side Room, if the sheriff dies and the murderer starts to camp, he will keep his attention and where he thinks the people are, and not random side rooms. High ground, if the sheriff dies, you can drop onto the gun and kill the murderer before he notices anything happened. Far Far Away, If the Sheriff is a pretty good player, you could take your chances in running away, and if he does die, then you know who the murderer is!
Hero Tactics & Gameplay
If you don't know what a Hero is, it's the secret fourth role that is only obtainable if an innocent player picks up the gun. In other words, an innocent turned sheriff.
Now the first thing I will mention is that it might not be the smartest idea to even become a hero. Murderers tend to keep a close eye on the gun, even if it isn't obvious. If the murderer is camping the gun, then it's obvious, but more importantly it would be a stupid idea to try to get the gun. Everyone likes to tempt fate and try to get the gun and shoot the murderer. Not only could this backfire, but you are literally risking your easy win for no reason.
If you don't try to get the gun and the murderer camps the whole round, you win. If the murderer stops camping and walks off, you know who he is. If you try to obtain the gun, you risk something that didn't even need to be risked and you will probably die and lose while if you do win, no one cares five minutes later. The best thing you should do is to just watch him from behind a column or a corner. If he leaves the area, you can get the gun and become a hero.
Let's say he isn't outright camping. that isn't the go ahead, get the gun sign. It isn't rare to find murderers baiting people into a corner kill with an open gun. If you come across the gun, examine the environment around you. If it is an open space where no one could be hiding, go ahead and become a hero. If it is at the end of a narrow hallway, it would be smarter to stay where you are and figure out where the murderer is before you go for it. Death sounds give away the location of the murderer, so use them to determine where the murderer is. If there is no death, there is no reason why you should go down that hallway.
Everything checks out and you have the gun, now what? Don't reveal your identity, you only get 1 shot before he figure out who you are. That shot is your best shot. You don't want to be holding your gun out very much. If he finds the gun missing, and uses X-ray while you have your gun out. You just wasted your best shot without even shooting it. The only exception to this rule is flashing your gun at innocent folk. The more people that know you are the sheriff, the better.
Remember the whole article where I made it pretty clear that trying to get the gun while the murderer is camping is a terrible idea? Well there is one exception to that, teamers. if a teaming murderer is camping, it's an arms race to that gun. You know what happens if the murderer and the sheriff are teamers.
I'll make more Specific scenarios later
That's it! (for now)
If you have thing to say leave a reply, I have some more things to add later
